Nitrile Butadiene Rubber, abbreviated as NBR, is a syntheic rubber that is used to manufacture oil handling hoses, seals and fuel tanks. It is also known as Buna N, nitrile rubber or acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. The chemical and physical properties of this material vary based on the composition of the nitrile polymer. If it has more nitrile composition within the polymer, it will have high resistance to petroleum oils and other chemicals.

Nitrile Butadiene Rubber belongs to the group of unsaturated copolymer types of butadiene monomers and 2 – propenenitrile hence it has special characteristics and chemical composition. This rubber material is highly resistant to any type of petroleum product, lubricating oils and industrial chemicals. Due to its high resistance to chemicals, it is extensively used in the automotive and aeronautical industries in the manufacture of materials whose chemical properties do not change when they come in contact with oil, fuel or chemical. These products include grommets, oil handling hoses, oil seals and self sealing fuel tanks. Nitrile Butadiene Rubber is able to withstand temperatures ranging from 108 to -40 degree Celsius.
