Sedimentary Rock

Definition - What does Sedimentary Rock mean?

Rocks are structured in different surroundings that can be both upon and within the earth’s remnant. Sedimentary rocks are shaped by the buildup of sediments. These rocks cover the widely held earth’s rocky surface. However, the total contribution of these rocks in a complete volume of crust is expected to be only 8%. Sedimentary rocks develop layers known as strata that can be easily seen in exposed cliffs.

Petropedia explains Sedimentary Rock

Rocks that get developed from the gathered sediments are known as sedimentary rocks. There are mainly four types of sedimentary rocks that include classic, biochemical, chemical, and organic sedimentary rocks. All these classifications are made based on the processes accountable for their development.
