Structural Engineer is an individual who analyzes, designs, and researches about the various structural components and systems to ensure the safety of occupants and other users. Structural engineering is one of the major disciplines of civil engineering. It accounts for safety, economic, environmental and technical concerns. The engineer is responsible for providing structures for towers, bridges, oil rigs, space satellites, aircraft, and buildings. Moreover, he/she also ensures that all the structures are strong enough to resist all structural loads including traffic, earthquake, wind, and rain.

Structural Engineers are almost responsible at every stage of a structure’s realization. They perform certain calculations, create drawings, review the work of other engineers and make reports on the basis of observations of the construction sites. They ensure that these structures can withstand pressure and stresses such that they do not collapse and remain stable throughout their use. The main responsibilities of a Structural Engineer are:

  • Analyze the initial configurations of structural components of a building.
  • Consider the strength of raw materials including timber, concrete, and bricks.
  • Liaise with other designers including architects and make them agree on safe designs.
