Carbon Capture And Storage, also known as Carbon Capture Sequestration, is the process of capturing carbon dioxide from atmosphere as well as anthropogenic carbon dioxide from large scale industrial plants such as power plants and refineries before it is released into the atmosphere. Once it is captured, it is injected deep into the ground for long-term storage. The Carbon Capture and Storage Process can lower the percentage level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and thus greenhouse effect can be reduced.

The Carbon Capture and Storage process helps in greatly reducing the levels of carbon dioxide emissions from new and existing thermal-based power plants, refineries and other polluting industries and thereby eliminating the rise in the Earth’s temperature because of greenhouse effect. Carbon sequestration is a three step process:
Step 1: Capturing CO2 from industries.
Step 2: Transportation of the captured CO2 to the compression plant where it is compressed and carried to the injection facility via pipelines.
Step 3: Underground injection and geologic sequestration or simply the storage of CO2 into the rock formations. The rocks beneath which the CO2 is buried are impermeable and thus they trap CO2 and do not let it to move upward.
